The Thanzi Programme is proud to announce a major new research grant for Thanzi Konse (Health Everywhere), awarded by the philanthropic organisation The Life You Can Save. This one-year project marks the exciting expansion of our work into Namibia and Zambia.
Supporting Universal Health Coverage in Namibia
A primary focus of the project is supporting Namibia’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Working alongside the Namibia Ministry of Health and Social Services and the World Health Organization, the Thanzi Konse team will:
- Develop Decision-Support Tools: Helping policymakers identify system bottlenecks and create realistic pathways to deliver the national Essential Health Services Package (EHSP).
- Analyse Health Financing: Examining the impact of public subsidies on private medical aid schemes to explore how redirecting resources could expand the public health sector and save more lives.
- Improve Resource Allocation: Exploring geographic formulae to ensure funding reaches remote and rural regions fairly.
Building Capacity in Zambia and the Region
Beyond Namibia, the project will conduct scoping work with the Zambian Ministry of Health and Ministry of Finance to develop a roadmap for long-term health economics capacity. Thanzi Konse will also continue to foster regional knowledge exchange by supporting the ECSA Health Economics Community of Practice.
