The Thanzi Programme is excited to announce the opening of applications for two new funded MSc Studentships to support postgraduate training in health economics. The Thanzi Studentship Programme aims to improve capability among academic, policy and community stakeholders to generate, interpret and use health economic evidence to inform their disease elimination and resource allocation decisions.
The programme was an outcome of a Thanzi Programme Partners Workshop held in March 2023 focussed on ‘Supporting the Realisation of the ALM Declaration’, and this year marks the third round of recruitment following success in 2023 and 2024. The studentship programme was originally established thanks to funding support from the Global Institute for Disease Elimination (GLIDE) and the University of York. Funding for 2025-2028 has been provided through the European Commission-funded project Health Economics for Policy Impact (HEPI).
The funded places will be available for students to enrol onto the University of York’s Health Economics Distance Learning (HEDL) Programme, designed to provide students with the skills and confidence to apply the principles of health economics in their careers.
Applications are open to candidates based in East or West Africa who are currently working on health economics-related issues for ministries of health or public universities and wish to further their career in health financing, planning, delivery or administration.
Further information about this Thanzi Studentship opportunity, including course content, eligibility criteria, and the application process is available via the Global Health Economics Hub: Thanzi Programme MSc Studentships 2025-2028.
